Weems Signs Letter of Intent with Missouri St

Kyle Weems, a 6-foot-6 forward from Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kan., signed a letter of intent with Missouri State today.

"It was a great day," Weems said. "Back when I used to watch my uncle Kris Weems, I wanted play Division I basketball. All of the stuff I have worked for thus far is a dream come true. They had a lot of news stations there...it was real special."

Weems picked Missouri State over Indiana State, Illinois State, Kent State, and Santa Clara.

He liked the Bears program located in Springfield, Mo. because:

"First of all, the staff," Weems said. "All of them were good and real family oriented. The whole program was good and all of the guys on the team are great. And also the city, it is a real nice college town. Missouri State is also coming up and probably should have went to the NCAA tournament last year."

Weems' high school teammate Lamont Austin, a 5-foot-11 guard, also signed with Missouri State as well.

"To play with him for another four years is great," Weems said. "It's been so far and to get another four years with your closest friend is real special. Not everyone gets to do that and we are not going to take advantage of that. We are going to be working hard and enjoying the next four years."

Kyle has his eyes set on winning a Missouri Valley Conference title, but knows it will be tough.

"The Missouri Valley Conference is a tough league night in and night out," Weems said. "Anybody in the league can beat you so you better bring your 'A' game."

For Missouri State fans who have not seen him play yet, he said the fans will be getting a player who is:

"Unselfish and is very team oriented. I am kind of a utility player who can do a little bit everything. I can shoot it, handle it, defend the post, defend the perimeter, and I'm just a great team player and a great teammate."
