News and Notes

• OF Nick Freitas had one of his better days hitting for average Saturday; reaching base, except one time, with every at-bat. There was a buzz about Freitas among the scouts in attendance as they heard he had been hitting the ball well this fall.

• The two players the scouts wanted to see were undoubtedly LHPs Scott Maine and Manny Miguelez. Both pitchers had a consistent fall. When RHP Danny Gil returns to the team next spring, the starting rotation should be one of the best in the country. Pitching Coach J.D. Arteaga calls this year's rotation the best he has coached since arriving to UM.

• LHP Eric Erickson has made steady progress throughout the fall season. Erickson has a great breaking ball that keeps batters off balance along with good control; he rarely walks a hitter.

• RHP Alex Koronis showed his great pickoff move again Saturday, throwing out Blake Tekotte at first base.

• Roughly 35 scouts and 35 recruits were in attendance to watch Saturday's scrimmage.

• After practicing Tuesday, OF Dennis Raben had a walking boot on the same ankle he injured earlier in the spring. Raben said after the Tuesday practice the ankle swelled up again. The injury is a sprained tendon in his ankle.
