RB Reminds UM of Young Edgerrin

This standout prospect took a trip to Miami with one of his teammates and a coach during the spring to attend the NIKE Camp. He talked about that experience. He talks about the Hurricanes and what he likes about UM.

Webster (Fla.) South Sumtner standout Earl Everett is gearing up for what he hopes will be a run at the state championship.

"I'm not really thinking about the recruiting process right now," he said. "I'm thinking more about how our team is going to do. Madison County beat us pretty good the last time we took the field during the season so we're ready to start fresh. We beat Wildwood 14-0 in the spring and we're hoping we can take things into the state title game this year."

At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Everett has his 40-time down to a 4.50 and recently tested at 34 inches on the vertical jump. Inside the classroom, he carries a 2.8 core with a 3.2 overall GPA to go with an ACT score of 15.

"That was my first time taking it and I really didn't study much for it," he said. "I'm taking a prep class right now and I should be able to get at least a 17 or 18 the next time."

Everett took a trip to Miami with one of his teammates and a coach during the spring to attend the NIKE Camp. He talked about that experience.

"It was nice," he said. "Miami's a lot different than Webster (laughing). I don't mind the big city, even though I would probably get lost. I liked the school a lot. I liked the weight room and I liked the atmosphere there. I'm going back to Miami for their game against Florida State. I've never been to a Miami game so I'm looking forward to it."

The standout linebacker, who is an Edgerrin James lookalike, said he'll also be attending the Florida/Miami game. "Those are the two biggest games in the state this year and I'll be at both of them," he said.

Everett, who has numerous scholarship offers, said recruiting remains wide open.

"I'm still looking at a lot of schools," he said. "I won't start narrowing it down until after I take some of my visits." Everett said the only school he'll visit for sure is UM.

"I talked to Coach Soldinger and Coach Coker in the spring," he said. "Soldinger said he likes me at running back. He said I remind him a lot of Edgerrin James during his younger days. Coach Coker was talking more about outside linebacker. It doesn't really matter to me, I just want to play."

Everett said he enjoyed talking with UM's head coach.

"Some coaches call and all they want to talk about is football," he said. "Coach Coker talked about my family, my grades, and stuff like that. He was being real straight up with me and said he thinks I have a chance to play early if I go to Miami."

Everett, who is also considering Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Tennessee, and South Florida among others, said he's looking for two main factors when making a decision.

"First is the school that can provide me with the most academic help," he said. "Football is important but academics are first and I want to be in good shape there. And the second thing is will I get early playing time. Of course I know I probably won't start as a freshman or anything, but I also dont want to wait till my senior year or anything like that. If I work hard enough, I think I can play early so I want that opportunity."
