In-State DB To Get In-Home Visit

Tremaine McKenzie is a talented defensive back prospect from Bradenton Prep Academy and he talked about the latest.

"We had a good year for the first year," McKenzie said. "We went 6-5. I finished the season with 60 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and seven tackles for loss. I only played four games on offense and I had 45 carries for 401 yards and six touchdowns."

McKenzie, 6-feet and 199 pounds, is getting recruited to play safety in college.

"I played outside linebacker because I was one of the biggest guys on defense," he said. "My main position is at defensive back and thats where I'll play in college."

The talented defender does not yet have any scholarship offers but a few schools are interested.

"Indiana, Southern Illinois, and USF have called and talked about setting up a visit," he said. "The coach from Miami talked to my coach and my dad. They're coming to meet with me and Jermaine sometime this week. They talked about maybe doing a package deal for both of us."

McKenzie said there's a lot to like about the Hurricanes.

"I've always liked them," he said. "I've been a fan of theirs since I was little. My cousin, Dyral McMillan, played there back in the 90s. It's a good school and I can't wait to hear what they have to say."

McKenzie carries a 3.5 core GPA and a 760 SAT score.

"Using the sliding scale, that makes me qualified," he said. "But I know some schools still go by the 820 so all I need to get is about 60 more points and I'll be straight."
