"We lost in the second round of the playoffs by one point," Wilder said. "The team we lost to is playing in the state championship game (last night)."
Wilder had an excellent senior season, scoring 13 touchdowns and putting up over 600 yards. He also returns kicks.
At 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, Wilder has the size and speed to create a lot of mismatches.
"I'm tall and I'm fast," he said. "In track, I have the fastest 400 time in the state with a 48.3."
Wilder, who is also rated as one of the top senior basketball players in the entire state, has not yet taken any recruiting visits but he has one scheduled.
"I'm going to Mississippi State on the 26th of January," he said. "I'll probably take one to Ole Miss too because they jusy started talking about it. Miami came to the school this past week. Coach (Pannunzio) came and said they were real interested in me. He said they can't really offer until they get a new head coach in there. I'll probably take a visit there too."
Wilder, who said Pannunzio plans to make a return visit this coming week, said there's a lot to like about the Hurricanes.
"It's a very good school athletically," he said. "I don't know about the academics yet. They have lots of tradition with winning and sending guys to the next level."
Wilder, who has not yet received any scholarship offers, was asked if playing close to home will be a major factor in his decision.
"Not really," he said. "I haven't looked at it like that. Going far away isn't a big deal to me. I just want to play where I feel most comfortable."
