Local WR Reacts To News

Alphonso Bryant is one of the top wide receiver prospects in the state of Florida this year and the Homestead standout talked about the latest.

"I went up with some of my teammates to UCF for a visit last weekend," Bryant said. "It was a good trip. I got a chance to meet the coaches and players. The next day, we got a tour of the campus. They're getting a new stadium and everything and it looked real big."

Bryant, 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, said the best part of the visit was how comfortable he felt there.

"The people and location were great," he said. "I felt like I was at home and plus, it's only four hours away so it wouldn't be a bad drive home."

Bryant and four of his Homestead teammates are headed to Rutgers next weekend.

"I've been to Arizona State and UCF and now it's time to see what Rutgers is all about," he said. "I'm taking my visits with an open mind and now I'm excited to see what they have going on. After that, I'll visit Florida State and UM in January."

Bryant, who had an excellent senior season with 38 catches for 595 yards and five touchdowns, spoke more about the Hurricanes.

"They really weren't on me there for awhile," he said. "Then Coach Mosely came out and talked to me. Me and him are real cool and he was letting me know what's up."

With the news of Randy Shannon getting the head coaching position, Bryant said he's excited.

"I know Coach Mosely said that if Coach Shannon got the job, he'd be staying so that's good," he said. "(Shannon) is a really good coach so I think it's good for UM."

The standout receiver isn't ready to name a favorite just yet.

"I'll know after all my visits," he said. "I'm just enjoying the experience and everything right now."
