RB James: "I felt real fresh"

Freshman RB Javarris James did not even expect to play this year let alone be the featured back.

Javarris James has rushed for 767 yards and four touchdowns this season averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

James has had three 100-yard-plus games including a 148-yard effort against Houston on Sept. 30.

With the time off in between games prior to a bowl game, the running backs often benefit the most from the time off as they suffer a number of bumps and bruises throughout a season.

James is no different.

"It definitely feels a lot different," said James of the rest. "Taking those two weeks I felt real good getting back on the field. I felt real fresh."

On Friday, the Hurricanes resumed practice in preparation for the bowl game.

"It was pretty good to have a couple of weeks off," James said. "It was good to relax, but it is also good to get back on the field."

The coaching situation with Larry Coker, Randy Shannon, the departure of offensive coordinator Rich Olson, and other possible moves on the staff can be a bit of a distraction.

"Not really, all of the guys really rallied around each other," James said. "Coach Berry brings a different style to the offense and we are having a lot of fun out there."

James and his teammates have been very supportive of Coker and want to send him out with a win in the bowl game.

"Coach Coker is a good dude and I don't see how someone in his place can stay happy and the way he talks to the guys," James said. "It still feels like he is still coaching and we are definitely going to miss him."
