Local Standout Gets UM Offer

At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard standout defensive end Stanley McClover had an impressive spring followed by an excellent summer. The talented defender dominated the NIKE Camp at UM in the spring then had strong performances at three different summer camps.

"I ran a 4.49 at Michigan State's camp," McClover said. "I did well there and also at Auburn and LSU."

McClover already has a list of scholarship offers to confirm that he's one of the state's elite prospects. It didn't take him long after beginning his football career last year.

"I just started playing last year," he said. "They always told me I was too big. I've played basketball and ran track."

McClover, who carries a 3.0 core GPA, said recruiting is going very well for him.

"I have a bunch of offers now," he said. "I had a bunch in the spring and I got many more this summer. My four favorites are LSU, Miami, Michigan State, and Florida and they've all sent me offers. I'm going to try to visit those places."

The standout defensive end talked more about the Hurricanes.

"They tight right now," he said. "My cousin (Darrell McClover) plays there and he has good things to say. UM's definitely one of my favorites. It's just hard right now trying to decide whether I want to stay home or leave. Sometimes I say I'm going to stay and then sometimes I say I'm going to leave. I'm neutral right now and will know a lot more after my visits."

McClover, who is being recruited by some schools as an outside linebacker, said UM is recruiting him to play defensive end. Now, McClover's ready to get things started.

"We're looking pretty good right now," he said. "Last year I had to play mostly offense but this year I'm just playing defensive end. I'm anxious to get to that first game. My two big goals are helping my team get into the state championship game and getting the most sacks in the entire nation."
