2008 Introduction: Anthony Downing

Anthony Downing is a 6-foot junior point guard at Atchison (KS) High School and is one of the best 2008 prospects in Kansas.

Anthony Downing got his name on the map when he scored a game-high 25 points against Travis Releford's Miege team earlier this season. Releford, also a junior, is ranked fourth in nationally at shooting guard by Scout.com.

"It felt pretty good to play against someone with that big of a name who is being recruited by Duke and all that," said Downing, who was guarded by Releford throughout the game. "It felt good outscoring him and it gave me the confidence that I can play with anybody."

Downing is averaging 20 points and 5 assists per game this season for Atchison, who improved to 11-1 on the season with a win on Tuesday night.

"I felt I have done pretty good this season," Downing said. "I am doing better than last year when I just had to pass the ball where as this year I have had to step up into more of a scoring role. Overall I think I have been doing pretty good."

His strengths as a player are being a solid all-around point guard, but he wants to continue to improve on his shot and driving to the basket.
