Leggett Shines at Scrimmage

Senior wide receiver Lance Leggett had a big scrimmage earlier today.

Lance Leggett caught seven passes for 102 yards and caught a 9-yard touchdown from Kyle Wright.

"Lance can fly and is big enough to get off of press coverage," offensive coordinator Patrick Nix said. "He was the big difference in the scrimmage today."

Leggett's 46-yard reception from Kirby Freeman with Lovon Ponder and Chavez Grant in coverage was the longest play of the day.

"Coach tells us to never give on the play and it just worked out for me," said Leggett on the play with an offsides flag was thrown.

After his big play, he threw the ball in the air in excitement which drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Coach Randy Shannon was not pleased with it and made Leggett run 200 yards of up-downs.

This was Leggett's first week of practice.

"When he does practice, he makes plays so we encourage him to practice as much as possible," Nix said. "He is a difference-maker, there is no doubt."

Nix coached Calvin Johnson, a projected top 10 pick in this year's NFL Draft, while at Georgia Tech.

"I've been fortunate to have coached a great receiver and when you have a great receiver it changes the ball game and all it takes is one."
