Miami coach Randy Shannon has scholarships available and might be interested in adding a kicker especially considering the struggles freshman Matt Bosher and sophomore Daren Daly have had this spring.
"We have scholarships open if we can find a good kicker," Shannon said.
When asked if he still would have liked to sign a kicker this spring, Shannon responded:
"Always," Shannon said. "We need to get someone to walk-on that is a great kicker and we will take them and have them compete."
Julio Moraga is a 5-foot-7, 190-pound kicker from Homestead High School near the UM campus and could be a Hurricane this fall. If so, look for Moraga to compete for the kicking duties.
Moraga, who excels in the classroom, was named first-team all-Dade County converting 7-of-10 field goals and 31-of-36 extra points.
Bosher was expected to take over for Jon Peattie as the team's kicker this season, but has been less than impressive in the two open scrimmages and has had troubles with his consistency this spring.
Daly, who is more accustomed to punting, is being given the opportunity to kick as well, but is not excelling enough to win the job.
