Khalil Jones, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound junior wide receiver, will be participating in the 100-meter dash and possibly the 4x100 meter relay.
The 4x100 meter relay, which could feature fellow receiver Sam Shields, who is battling a sickness, is scheduled to start at 5:40 PM.
The 100-meter dash is scheduled to start at 7:20 PM.
Jones is looking for the same type of success he had last Saturday when he caught three passes for 54 yards in the spring game. He also had the biggest play of the day--a 41-yard reception.
The talented receiver is working hard in hopes of a breakout season in 2007 after struggling to find playing time in his first two seasons at UM.
"He has been here three years so he should know what to expect," wide receivers coach Marquis Mosely said.
In his career, Jones has caught seven passes for 81 yards.
"Progressively as a receiver I think I have gotten better," Jones said. "I am just trying to make a play and help my team win, however that might be."
Since arriving to UM from Northwestern High School in Miami, Jones has been one of the team's best students who has a double major in sports administration and creative writing with a minor in business administration. Jones has a goal of leaving UM with a master's degree in business administration.
"This year has been crazy with academics," Jones said. "I got behind last semester, but I finished out strong."
Jones is hoping to be a key piece of the puzzle as UM returns to national prominence.
"Coming into last year we had the same expectations we do every year--a national championship," Jones said. "Of course things didn't go that well and we had a lot of ups and downs. But I think it brought us closer together and right now I don't think I've ever been so close to my teammates."
