Katuka Chooses GW over Miami

Joseph Katuka, a 6-foot-10, 220-pound center, took a visit to Miami this past weekend.

Following his visit, Joseph Katuka committed to George Washington on Tuesday according to his high school coach Kevin Sutton.

"Joseph had a good visit to Miami and George Washington and felt very comfortable with both schools," Sutton said. "He wanted the opportunity to play right away and George Washington gives him that opportunity. He also felt more comfortable with the staff at G.W. It is a good fit for him academically and athletically."

Katuka averaged six points and six rebounds a game for Montverde Academy last season as the team finihsed 30-0 and fourth nationally in the USA Today Super 25 poll.

"As a player, he is relentless rebounder and is very, very actice," Sutton said. "I truly believe he will be a better college basketball player than a high school basketball player."

When Katuka came to Montverde, he had not played a lot of organized basketball experience, but has progressed since first arriving to school. With the facilities at George Washington, Katuka is expected to continue to improve.

"He is a quality young man and will represent our school, program, and family very well," Sutton said. "He has a great deal of pride and understands his responsibility and commitment in being a role model."
