Meriweather Selected by Patriots in 1st Round

With the 24th overall pick in the first round the New England Patriots selected Miami safety Brandon Meriweather.

With Brandon Meriweather (5-11/195) selected in the first round, Miami extended their streak with 13 consecutive years with a first-round draft pick.

The last Hurricane to be selected by New England was Vince Wilfork (2004, 1st round)

In 52 games at Miami, Meriweather started 31 contests. He set the school career record for defensive backs with 293 total tackles and 182 solo stops. He had 2½ sacks for minus-24 yards and 20 stops for losses of 65 yards. He added four quarterback pressures, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He deflected 25 passes and gained 45 yards on seven interception returns.
