UM on Verge of Offering Standout DE

This talented defensive end prospect has 4.7 speed on his 6-6, 255-pound frame. He's off to an outstanding start to his season and talks about the recruiting process and some of the schools he's still considering at this point.

At 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds, Miami (Fla.) Braddock standout defensive end Tranell Morant has watched his team struggle to an 0-2 start this season.

"We have a good running back on offense," Morant said. "But our skilled position players need to come along. I'm probably going to start playing offense (tight end) this week."

Morant, whose natural athletic ability allows him to make plays that show flashes of a young Julius Peppers, has been very solid thus far. He has seven sacks and two caused fumbles in two games so far.

"I've been gotten to understand the game," he said when asked about his learning process. "Everytime I take the field, I learn more and it's really starting to come together now."

Morant, who is a full academic qualifier, has been busy talking to college coaches so far this month.

"Everybody's been calling," he said. "Pretty much the same ones as before. I'm still looking at Tennessee, Auburn, Miami, Florida, N.C. State, Rutgers, and Missouri. I don't have a favorite or anything like that. They're all even so far."

Morant attended the Florida/Miami game two weeks ago in Gainesville.

"I had a headache by the second quarter," he laughed about the noise level. "Florida lost but you can tell Miami is a much better team right now."

The standout defensive end said he's spoken to Randy Shannon a couple times.

"Coach Shannon said they're going to offer me," he said. "He said they're at the last stage of analyzing my film but will be offering me real soon."

Morant said he's also in the process of setting up some official visits.

"I haven't made any of those final yet," he said. "I'll probably visit schools like Rutgers, N.C. State, Auburn, and Tennessee. I really don't need to take a visit to Miami because I stay right down the road and you are only allowed five of them. I'm trying to concentrate on winning right now and I'll do my visits starting in December."

Morant has scholarship offers from all of his favorites except for the Hurricanes and as he said, that should be changing very soon.
