ACC: Canes Defeat #3 FSU, 9-3

With a 9-3 over Florida State, Miami is just one win away from a spot in the ACC Championship game, but will need help from FSU.

Miami will face Wake Forest, the No. 8 seed, on Saturday at 7 p.m. for an opportunity to advance to the ACC Championship game on Sunday.

They will need to beat Wake Forest and need a win by Florida State over Clemson in order to advance to the ACC Championship game.

Miami scored four runs in the sixth inning to stretch their lead to 9-3 as Eric Erickson pitched eight strong innings.

Erickson (10-3) allowed three runs and seven hits. He struck out four and walked one.

All nine Miami (36-21) hitters in the starting lineup recorded hits led by Jemile Weeks, who had three hits and three RBI.

Richard O'Brien got the Canes on the scoreboard with a three-run homer in the second inning to give UM a 3-1 lead. They would not trail the rest of the game.

Weeks hit a two-run single in the fifth inning.

Florida State (47-10) second baseman Tony Thomas Jr., the ACC Player of the Year, had two hits including a solo home run in third inning.

Former Hurricane Ryan Braun made his MLB Debut tonight with the Brewers as he started at third base and batted second in the lineup...O'Brien struck out with the bases loaded to end the fifth inning with UM leading 5-2...Erikson retired the Seminoles in the fifth inning with just four pitches...O'Brien's home run was the first in eight games in the ACC tournament...Blake Tekotte was slow getting up after crashing into the wall in the ninth inning, but remained in the game.


If Miami defeats Wake Forest, they will face the winner of North Carolina/Virginia game at 1 p.m. North Carolina is ranked 4th nationally, Virginia 8th.
