Canes Await NCAA Selection Show

The Miami baseball team fell to Wake Forest Saturday night, 7-3, ending their regular season with a 36-22 record.

The Miami Hurricanes will be watching the NCAA Selection Show on Monday at 12:30 PM to find out their fate.

With an RPI in the top 20, they are expected to receive a No. 2 seed in the 16 four-team regionals.

Their 36-22 record, 17-13 in the ACC, will likely keep them away from hosting a regional.

Last year the Hurricanes did host a regional, but advanced to the College World Series as coach Jim Morris made his 10th appearance in 13 years at UM.

Sophomore 1B Yonder Alonso leads the team in batting average (.377), home runs (18), RBI (74), slugging percent (.720), and on-base percent (.520).

Freshman LF Mark Sobolewski (.344-6-50) is also having a strong season along with sophomore CF Blake Tekotte (.341-2-24). Sophomore RF Dennis Raben is second on the team with 11 home runs.

Senior IF Roger Tomas has started 183 games in his UM career and has a career batting average of .305.

Freshman LHP Eric Erickson (10-3, 2.00 ERA) continues his remarkable season. Juniors LHP Scott Maine (5-5, 3.03 ERA) and RHP Enrique Garcia (7-4, 3.51) give the Hurricanes a starting rotation that could vault the 'Canes deep into games.
