Kicker Granted 6th Year

After five years at the University of Miami, Zampogna has been granted a 6th year of eligibility.

Francesco Zampogna has only played in four games in five years as a Hurricane. He's scored two points, thanks to playing time in a blowout win against Florida A&M in 2006.

On Monday, the senior learned that he's been granted an extra year of eligibility and head coach Randy Shannon is happy about it because it gives the team more competition at a position that seems to be lacking at this time.

"We need competition at every position. Now it's more competition for the kicking," Shannon said.

Zampogna handled most of the kickoff duties in a blowout win over Louisiana Tech when he was a sophomore. He then handled two of the extra points against Florida A&M as a senior.

Coaches are hoping he can push Matt Bosher and Daren Daly for playing time this season.
