8/6 Injury Update

After three days of preseason practices, the Hurricanes are still missing a few key players. Read on to find out who they are and to see what Randy Shannon is saying...

Darryl Sharpton entered fall camp as the leading candidate to become the team's starting middle linebacker this season. His attempt to do so has been put on hold, as he's been held out of practice the last few days due to soreness.

Two incoming freshmen are still rehabbing high school injuries.

"Damien Berry is still rehabbing an injury from high school," Shannon said. "You know how it is -- you don't want to reinjure something. So we're taking our time with him."

Berry first injured his knee as a junior at Suncoast High School in Palm Beach County. He ended up missing nearly the entire season because of it. After transferring to Glades Central for his senior season, Berry played in a few games early in the year before missing a good part of his senior season because of the injury. CanesTime.com will continue updating you on the status of his injury.

Running back Shawnbrey McNeal is the other freshman being held out. Shannon said he's simply being held out until he gets the OK from team doctors after taking a physical.
