August 19th Practice Report

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - - The University of Miami Hurricanes worked out in shells Sunday morning to conclude their final morning practice of summer training camp. Miami will scrimmage for the final time Monday morning.

"It was a typical Sunday practice, but it was good," UM head coach Randy Shannon said. "We had a couple of two-minute drills that we worked on, which was good. We just spent time getting ready for the scrimmage tomorrow. We went through things today that were short, quick and sharp to get ready for the scrimmage."

Miami has already scrimmaged twice this preseason. Shannon said that quarterbacks Kirby Freeman and Kyle Wright are coming along fine. "Tomorrow I want them to go out and manage the game and score points and give us the best opportunity to win," Shannon said. "That's all nothing more than we've been asking from what they've been doing now. The best thing about them is they go out there and play and have fun."

Shannon said that cornerbacks Glenn Sharpe, Randy Phillips and linebacker Colin McCarthy are stilled "nicked up." All three missed practice on Sunday. Shannon said linebacker Glenn Cook saw the team doctor and is still recovering.

The team will scrimmage on Monday morning at the Orange Bowl. The scrimmage - the third and final of this year's training camp - is closed to the public and all media. The next media availability will be following the team's 4 p.m. practice Tuesday at the Greentree Athletic Fields in Coral Gables.
