Standout DL May Visit UM

One of the top two prospects in his home state, this talented defensive lineman has a list of very impressive scholarship offers. He talks about his first official visit that he took recently, how the recruiting process has been going, and where the Hurricanes stand on his current list.

At 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds, Hamden (Conn.) Hyde Leadership standout offensive/defensive lineman Richard Kittrell and his teammates finally opened their season this past weekend.

"We won our first game 45-0," Kittrell said. "We played very well and should keep getting better. I was going both ways as usual. I had about 8 tackles, one blocked punt, and I caused two fumbles."

Kittrell, a full academic qualifier, said recruiting has also been keeping him busy.

"I still talk to a lot of different coaches that call here," he said. "I just got off the phone with Iowa. Miami still calls, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Maryland, Tennessee, Ohio State, and a few more."

The standout defensive lineman said he has not yet scheduled any more visits after taking one to Michigan State a couple weeks ago.

"I went when they played Cal," he said. "It went well. I got to see a lot of stuff up close and met some of the players. They have a good program. I also went to the Maryland/Akron game but it was for an unofficial visit."

Kittrell was asked about some possible favorites.

"There's still a whole bunch that I'm looking at," he said. "I still haven't started to narrow it down yet."

So what about the University of Miami - are they still on the list of possible candidates?

"Oh yeah, I'm definitely considering Miami still," he said. "Most of it's based on how well they've been playing lately. Miami seems like the best team playing right now. Coach Hargreaves is recruiting me as a defensive end and it's a good possibility that I'll take a visit down there."

Kittrell, who claims scholarship offers from all the schools still calling him, said he's more focused on the season right now.

"I've been waiting all year for my senior year and now it's here," he said. "I'll think about recruiting on the side."
