"Khalil did a great job," Shannon said of the preseason camp. "One scrimmage he had five catches, no drops, a touchdown. We've been moving him around a lot. He's a very smart and intelligent guy."
Jones, 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, hasn't done much in his UM career up to this point so Canes fans are hoping the installment of the new offense will benefit him.
"Everybody will have a package," Shannon said. "We may line up with three wide receivers in a game without a fullback. Then Darnell (Jenkins) is starting. We let Lance (Leggett) concentrate on his deal and Darnell to concentrate on his deal."
Jones has played in 23 games as a Hurricane, starting three of them. In those 23 games, he has seven catches for 81 yards and no touchdowns. Jones was a two-star recruit out of Miami Northwestern High School a few years ago. He inked with the Hurricanes after also taking official visits to Indiana, Iowa, and Pittsburgh.
