LB High on UM

This talented linebacker prospect is very interested in the Hurricanes and is currently enjoying an excellent season. Read on to find out where the Hurricanes stand on his current list and get an idea of where he might be on Miami's list.

At 6-feet and 210 pounds, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna standout fullback/strong safety John Beason has enjoyed a very nice start to his season.

In helping his team get to a 4-0 start this season, Beason has done very well playing both sides of the football. On offense, he has five touchdowns rushing. On defense, he has 19 tackles, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.

"We keep getting better every week," Beason said. "We got Glenn [Cook] back last week and although he didn't play a lot because they're trying to work him in, it helped a lot. We haven't given up a first down the last two games now. Our defense really came on strong after the game against Bolles."

Beason's team is currently ranked No. 2 in the state rankings behind Miami Pace. Beason commented.

"I saw a little of Pace," he said. "They look real good but we don't have to worry about them until the playoffs. I noticed that Willie Williams is now playing linebacker. He hurt us real bad as a defensive end last year and I'm actually glad he's playing linebacker now. I think he could become a great defensive end in college but he's just too tall at linebacker, I think. He's a great, great player though."

Beason, a full academic qualifier, said he's also enjoying the recruiting process.

"I still get the weekly calls from Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Rutgers, Kansas State, Iowa, and a few more," he said. "I have Georgia penciled in for the 10th of January but that's it for visits right now. I'm going to try taking some in December but hopefully we'll make it to the state championship game which probably won't allow me to take any until January."

Beason was asked about his current favorites.

"It's pretty much the same," he said. "I still like the in-state schools a lot - Miami, Florida State, and Florida. And then I like Georgia, Tennessee, and a couple others. They've all offered me except for Miami."

So what about the Hurricanes?

"I went to the Florida A&M game," he said. "I really had a good time. Then I went to the Florida State/Duke game. Next week, I'm going to the big one between FSU and Miami. That should be a battle."

So how interested are the Hurricanes in the talented linebacker?

"Well, I haven't talked to the Miami coaches since the Florida A&M game so I don't know for sure," he said. "Glenn is committed there and I'd love to be able to play with him some day. But I don't really have any favorites right now."
