Super DT Has UM in Top 3

This super talented defensive tackle prospect is widely considered one of the best in America. UM defensive coordinator Randy Shannon visited his school last week. Read on to find out what he thinks of the Hurricanes and where they rank on his list of current favorites.

At 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds, Decatur (Ill.) MacArthur standout defensive lineman Lawrence "Moe" Dampeer has gotten off to an excellent start this season.

"We're still very young," Dampeer said. "But we're still finding our place. We'll be OK. In five games, I have 48 tackles and five sacks."

Dampeer, who is being recruited to play tackle, said he's been playing mostly defensive end this season.

"It all depends on the defensive situation," he said. "Most of the time, I'm playing end."

Dampeer said he's also focusing on his academics.

"I'm trying to bring my grades up," he said. "And I just took the SAT so I'm waiting to see what the scores were."

Dampeer then talked about the recruiting process by making an immediate comment.

"My top three are Miami, Oklahoma, and Tennessee," he said. "I'm going to wait till after the season and after my visits to make a decision. Purdue's also in there and I still like Illinois a little bit."

Dampeer, who has not yet scheduled any official visits, talked about each of his three favorites.

Oklahoma: "I really the their defense and the way they play."

Tennessee: "It's the coaches there. I really like them and feel like I could fit in."

Miami: "It's just an all around great program. I like their all around game and tradition."

On a side note, UM defensive coordinator Randy Shannon made a visit to Dampeer's high school last week.

"I don't have any one [that stands out] right now," he said. "I'll figure out who that is after my trips."
