Safety Likes UM; Will Visit

This talented strong safety prospect is having an excellent season and he talks about that plus the recruiting season. After talking to UM defensive backs coach Mark Stoops, he talks about where the Hurricanes rank on his current list of favorites.

At 6-foot-2 1/2 and 208 pounds, Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic standout wide receiver/strong safety LeRue Rumph has enjoyed a solid start to his season.

"We're 2-2 but we're better than that," Rumph said. "We'll be OK, we just have a few things to work on. I have 7 tackles per game on defense and I'm averaging about 17 yards per catch on offense."

Rumph, who is qualified with an 860 SAT score, said he plans on taking that test again just to get a higher score. In the meantime, he's been busy with the recruiting process.

"Everything's going fine," he said. "All the schools recruiting me have been calling here lately. Florida State, Florida, Miami, Georgia, a bunch of them. I'm still interested in the three Florida schools, Georgia, Clemson, and Southern Cal."

Rumph talked more about the Hurricanes.

"I spoke to their defensive backs coach," he said. "Coach Stoops is a great coach. I think I'm going to go to the Miami/Florida State game for an unofficial visit. I went to the Florida/Miami game and I really enjoyed it. It was a good game until Grossman threw the interception. Miami came ready to play. They always do. I like Miami a lot because I like the area there a lot."

Rumph said the Canes are one of his three current favorites.

"I mean, I dont have any problems leaving the state if I have to," he said. "But the three Florida schools are my favorites. The only trip I have set up right now is to Southern Cal when they play Notre Dame in November. I'll set up the rest later and I will probably check out the 3 in-state schools."

Rumph said he has scholarship offers from all of his favorites, except the Hurricanes.

"I got hurt last year," he said. "I broke my leg so I've only played in four games in two years. They just wanted to watch my senior season before offering. They're the only one I'm still waiting on."
