Shannon: Duke Never Quits

The Duke game is just two days away. Read on to see what head coach Randy Shannon is saying about them, last year's game, and a couple interesting players on their team...

On preparing for Duke this week:
We're not gonna take them lightly. Last year they had a chance to beat us. It was a great play by (Willie) Cooper to get us out of that situation. That can help you. If you beat a team the year before by 30 or 40 points and are coming off a big victory, it's easy to take them lightly. They played Navy tough, they had a comeback against Virginia. They beat Northwestern at Northwestern. Those are things you take account for.

On the play Cooper made:
He just read what they were doing coverage-wise and broke on the ball. It was a great play. If Willie didn't read it right, we would have lost the game.

On what could make Duke dangerous:
They just never quit. We had a lot of players out. They kept fighting. Watching them on tape, they're gonna keep playing hard. Coach Roof does a great job in getting his players to play that way.

On Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis, a former Dade County prep star:
He wanted to leave town. We had quarterbacks on the roster back then. He did what was best for him back then. Everyone from Miami, high school coaches and stuff, are watching his career.

On how to prevent a letdown:
Just turn on the film and let those guys watch it. (Let them) see how easy it is to lose against someone that may not be a great opponent. You can bring in games this season from other college teams that lost. We have to stay focused on what we have to get done as a team.

On defensive lineman Vince Oghobaase:
Vince is a big guy who came in on a visit. We thought he would be a great player here but he chose Duke and that's all there was.
