At 6-foot-4 and 195 pounds, Danville (Calif.) Monte Vista standout quarterback Kyle Wright has been outstanding so far this season. In leading his team to an undefeated record so far, Wright has 13 touchdowns compared to just one interception this season.
"The interception came on a great play by the defensive lineman," Wright said. "He tipped it up and the same player caught it. It was a real athletic play."
Wright, whose primary focus remains on winning a state championship, also had some interesting news on the recruiting front.
"I had a chance to speak to Andre Caldwell," he said. "We just talked about each of our seasons and how that's been going. He's been playing quarterback the last few weeks as well and is having a real good year. I basically told him that I had heard he was one of the top wide receiver prospects in Florida and that I'd love to have the opportunity to throw to him at Miami. He said he's looking real hard at Miami and just wants someone that can deliver him the ball. I told him that won't be a problem. He seems very interested in Miami right now."
Unlike Caldwell, whose homecoming is on Saturday, Wright will be attending the Florida State game this weekend.
"I'm taking red eye," he said. "I get into Miami in the morning and we're going straight to the Orange Bowl so I can be there for all the pre-game stuff. My parents will be getting to the stadium right before kickoff. I'll be pretty tired when I come back home but I'm really looking forward to it. I heard it's [a] great [atmosphere]. I'm also looking forward to meeting some other kids like the Pompano [Ely] guys and there's a defensive lineman from Ohio [David Patterson] coming for his visit. It should be a lot of fun."
