Not Yet on McKenzie

There has been a lot of talk recently about the status of freshman wide receiver Jermaine McKenzie. With lots of reports being thrown around the last few days, head coach Randy Shannon gives us the scooop...

Jermaine McKenzie suffered a neck injury during a car accident over the summer. Now five weeks into the season, a lot of people are wondering about his status -- especially after Internet reports in recent days that suggested he was ready. Randy Shannon addressed those rumors.

"You need to stop reading the Internet blogs," Shannon said. "He still needs to build up the muscles (in his neck) before he's ready (for contact)."

Shannon said that sometimes decisions like this go beyond his duties as a football coach. He explained.

"As a person, I owe it to parents to make sure their kids are physically ready to play," he said. "I worry about Jermaine being able to walk around, not being able to play football right now."
