DT Strong on UM; Will Visit 3

This talented defensive tackle prospect is enjoying a strong season. He talks about the recruiting process and names the three schools he plans on taking official visits to.

At 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, Royal Palm Beach, Fla. standout defensive tackle Dave Howell has enjoyed a strong season thus far, even though his team has struggled to a 1-4 start.

"I have about seven sacks on defense and I'm always battling double teams," Howell said. "I've played some tight end on offense and that's gone pretty well. I just wish I'd get the ball more (laughing)."

Howell, a full academic qualifier, said he's continued talking to UM coaches lately along with some others.

"I talk to Miami's coaches just about every week," he said. "I have not set my visit date yet, but it'll probably be after the season. I'm planning on going to the Florida State game on Saturday. Miami's been off to a great start this season. Their season's been looking great. I can't wait to start my career there."

Howell said in addition to Miami, several other coaches continue to call.

"They know I'm committed but they still call," he said. "My decision is solid but my Mom thinks it would benefit me to take some other visits. So I'll check out BYU (where his brother, O'Neil, plays), Florida, and maybe Tennessee in addition to Miami."

When discussing the possibility of Howell being the only player from Palm Beach County in this year's UM recruiting class, he added more.

"Actually, they said they're looking at the safety from Atlantic (Brandon Owens). I know he's a great player. He's a human highlight film so hopefully things work out."
