Illinois PK Gets Offer

Jake Wieclaw is a talented kicker from Lenox (Ill.) Lincoln Way Central and he picked up his first scholarship offer recently. Read on to see what he's saying...

"We're done for the season," Jake Wieclaw said. "We lost in the first round of the playoffs. My season ended early with a broken ankle. I injured it during the game and then aggrevated it over the weekend and wasn't able to play. I went in to the doctor and he said it was broken."

Wieclaw, 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, plays wide receiver and kicks for his team.

"I had a good year," he said. "On offense, I had 35 catches for 485 yards. On field goals, I was 9-for-11 with one game-winner and a long of 52."

Wieclaw, who was two field goals short of the national record for a high school career, recently picked up his first scholarship offer.

"Last week I got offered by Miami," he said. "That was big. Not only was it my first one but it came from a great program. I'm going down there on December 14th for an official visit and I'll make my decision then. I don't have anything else scheduled for now."

It appears Wieclaw wants to see the school in person before making a commitment.

"I've been to Miami but I haven't been on the campus," he said. "I definitely wanna check it out to see if it's for me. They're a great program with a lot of tradition but they're struggling some this year."

The talented kicker was being recruited by Illinois but it appears they're no longer in the picture.
