Elite CB May Visit UM

This super talented cornerback prospect was recently called by UM coach Mark Stoops and asked to visit. Read on to find out if he'll take the visit, what he likes about Miami, and which other schools are involved.

At 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville standout cornerback Donte Whitner is having an excellent season. In helping his team to a 5-2 record, Whitner has 45 tackles, three caused fumbles, two interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns. He also has five punt returns for touchdowns. Offensively, he has 19 receptions for 550 yards and eight scores.

"We should be 7-0," Whitner said. "We lost the first two games to high ranked teams because we made our own mistakes. We're back on track though."

Whitner, a full academic qualifier, also talked about the recruiting process.

"It's going alright," he said. "The ones I'm still looking at are Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, USC, Notre Dame, Florida, and Miami. I already have four of my visits set up - Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, and USC. I'm still debating on where to take my fifth one to but it'll probably be Notre Dame."

Whitner talked more about the Hurricanes.

"I think that's a great school and they have great coaches," he said. "I like Coach Stoops, who is recruiting me. There's still a chance I might use my fifth visit to Miami but I doubt it because they started recruiting me so late. I just started hearing from them while the others have been recruiting me since 11th grade. Plus, they haven't offered me a scholarship yet. But Miami's Miami, so we'll see."

Whitner was asked about a possible favorite.

"I don't even have one," he said. "Some nights I feel as if I wouldn't mind leaving [home] and others I feel like staying. It all depends on my visits."
