Super DE A Miami Fan

This talented defensive end prospect said he grew up a Canes fan and still roots for them. Read on to find out what this player, who has over 50 offers, thinks about the recruiting process. He talks about what he likes about Miami, his relationship with UM coach Greg Mark, his thoughts on the FSU game, and his visit schedule in this interview.

At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, Camden (N.J.) Woodrow Wilson standout defensive end Turk McBride has been playing very well for his 3-2 team this season.

In those five games, McBride has 25 tackles, 5 1/2 sacks, three caused fumbles, one blocked punt, and two defensive touchdowns. He also has three receptions for 75 yards and one score as a tight end.

McBride, who is trying to raise his test scores to become a full academic qualifier, also talked about the recruiting process.

"It can be hectic at times, but it's calming down lately since I've started to narrow down my list," he said. "I'm still looking at Miami, UCLA, West Virginia, Michigan, Syracuse, Virginia, and Iowa. I have [visits scheduled to] UCLA on October 25 and Michigan on December 13. I haven't decided on my other ones yet."

McBride talked more about the Hurricanes.

"I was supposed to let Greg Mark know when is a good weekend I can make it for a visit," he said. "Miami is definitely going to be one of my trips. I like Coach Mark a lot and the whole program. I love Miami. I grew up a Miami fan and like everything about them. I watched the Florida State game last weekend and saw FSU give their best effort of the season, while Miami didn't play real well. Yet, Miami never gave up. They played with a lot of heart and that's something I really like about them."

So what date is Coach Mark and McBride talking about for a visit to UM?

"He wanted to set it up for the 6th of December," he said. "But my coach doesn't want me taking any visits during playoff time so I'm going to let him know what's a better date. It'll probably be in late December or early January."

So where do the Hurricanes rank on McBride's current list of favorites?

"I really don't have one favorite," he said. "I like them all. Just because I'm a Miami fan doesn't necessarily mean I'm going to sign with them. I have to look at all my options. I would like to get playing time as a freshman and I think there's a chance for that at Miami since they're losing some defensive ends."

One of the defensive ends UM is losing is former Woodrow Wilson standout Jamaal Green.

"Jamaal is really having a lot of fun in Miami," he said. "It just proved that someone from Woodrow Wilson can go to Miami and do well."
