This standout defensive tackle said he has spoken to UM coach Randy Shannon this season and he explains why he likes Miami among his favorites. Read on to find out where the Hurricanes rank on his list and see which schools he plans on visiting.

At 6-0.5 and 305 pounds, Carson, Calif. standout defensive tackle Mathew Malele is having a strong season for his 3-2 team.

In those five games, Malele has 32 tackles, four sacks, and five batted passes. Inside the classroom, he just took the SAT for the first time this past Saturday.

"Recruiting's going really good," Malele said. "The schools I'm still considering are USC, Tennessee, Oregon, Stanford, Miami, and Cal. All of them except for Miami have offered already."

So what does Malele think about the Hurricanes?

"They're a really good team," he said. "That's not hard to see, but their defensive line coach has a good rep. Just look at all the players that will play in the NFL. I talked to Coach [Shannon] earlier in the year but he hasn't called since early September so I dont know if they're still interested or what. I'm still interested in them, though."

The standout defensive tackle has already taken one visit and has another one scheduled.

"I went to Oregon earlier," he said. "It was a lot of fun. They were playing Fresno State and I enjoyed it a lot. Next up is Tennessee for November 9. They're playing Miami that day so it should be a great game. I'll also probably visit Stanford for sure. Other than that, I don't know yet between. If Miami offers it, I'll probably take a trip there but I'm not sure yet."
