Db Has Dream of Playing at UM

This talented cornerback prospect has been talking to UM coaches lately and he said it's been a lifelong dream to play at Miami. Read on to find out what he likes about Miami, which other schools are on his list, and his thoughts on the Florida State game he attended in the Orange Bowl.

At 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland standout cornerback A.J. Brant is enjoying a strong season as part of a very stingy defense.

"We've only allowed one touchdown all year on defense," Brant said. "And it came late against Winter Springs. I have four interceptions and two blocked punts."

Brant, a full academic qualifier, talked about the recruiting process.

"It's going pretty good but the phone is always ringing," he said. "I'm trying to focus on Florida State, Florida, and Miami. Those are the three I'm looking at the most. I'm trying to state around here [in Florida] because I dont like the cold (laughing)."

Brant, who has seven scholarship offers, is still waiting for the in-state schools to come through.

"They all call a lot and said they like what they've seen but they just need a few more game tapes to make a final decision," he said. "I'm supposed to be setting up my visits in the next week or so. I'll be going to all three Florida schools and maybe take two more."

Brant was able to watch the state's two biggest games so far.

"I went to the Florida/Miami game and had a great time," he said. "I thought that it was a great atmosphere there but then I went to the Florida State/Miami game and it was even better. That was a crazy game, probably the craziest I've ever seen. I really enjoyed it. I was excited and the crowd was loud and everything. Plus, I got to go into the locker room for Miami after the game."

Brant said the highlight of the visit was the game, but aside from that, it was getting a chance to meet UM's coaches.

"I met some of them and they were real cool," he said. "They all seem real nice and they do a good job there."

The talented cornerback, who is being recruited by Coach Soldinger, talked about each of the three.

"Basically, I grew up a Florida State and Miami fan," he said. "It's always been my dream to play at those schools. I never knew both of them would recruit me so it's going to be a tough decision. And with Florida, they always had a good team and I think it would be a good place for me to go."

Brant said that none of the three have the upper hand.

"They all even pretty much," he said. "They're my leaders. I'm also looking at places like Iowa, Michigan State, Duke, N.C. State, and some others."
