Standout Ready for Offer

This talented prospect grew up a Canes fan and now he's ready to accept a scholarship offer from UM, which he hopes is right around the corner. Read on to find out what he likes about UM, what the coaches are telling him, and what his response would be if offered.

At 6-feet and 180 pounds, Deerfield Beach standout punter Christian Koegel has been enjoying an excellent season thus far.

Averaging 47.4 yards per punt with a long of 63, Koegel has been excellent. He's also connected from 38 yards out on a field goal attempt.

A full academic qualifier that was recently named Broward County's Student of the Month, Koegel also talked recruiting.

"The colleges are still calling," he said. "I haven't set up any visits or anything yet, but I know where I'll be going. First is definitely the University of Miami. And I'll also probably visit N.C. State, Boston College, Notre Dame, and maybe Florida."

Koegel said he was excited when he heard that Eric Wilbur had committed to Florida for a couple reasons.

"I was really happy for Eric," he said. "He's a great guy and a great punter and I'm happy for his opportunity. And of course it changes my outlook too because Miami was recruiting him also."

Koegel said he recently attended the FSU game.

"It was awesome," he said. "I got to meet Jim Kelly. He's a real nice guy . I've gone to every home game this year to show [the UM coaches] that I'm interested in all of them and not just the big ones. They're still No. 1 on my list."

Koegel said he's hoping that Coach Soldinger will soon call with a scholarship offer. If that happens, he already knows what his response will be.

"If Miami offers, I'll say 'I take it' before he can even finish the sentence," he said. "There will be no second thougths at all. I'm hoping it happens because that's where I want to end up."

Koegel said Coach Soldinger told him they'll definitely take a punter this year.

"He said they'll definitely take one because they don't want one guy doing both the kicking and the punting," he said. "So I guess the person that they sign will have a pretty good chance to play. I know they're looking at Brian Monroe too."

Koegel said he'll enjoy the process and take his visits, but he has one thing on his mind.

"I'm going to enjoy it all," he said. "As long as I end up a Hurricane, everything will be OK."
