Local Standout High on UM

This talented prospect is widely considered one of the best in the state by college coaches based on his current offer sheet. The local standout talks about why he likes the Hurricanes so much.

At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, Miami (Fla.) Carol City standout defensive end Eric Moncur has missed the last four games this season due to a shoulder injury.

"It's separated," Moncur said. "I haven't needed surgery but it has bothered me a little and I haven't been cleared to play yet. Hopefully I'll be back for the Central game at the end or the first round of the playoffs."

In the season's first four games, Moncur said he registered eight quarterback sacks. A full academic qualifier, Moncur also talked about the recruiting process.

"I'm pretty much trying to figure out which ones I'll be visiting after the season," he said. "I might take one in December but they'll probably mostly be in January. I'm still looking at UM, Florida State, Florida, N.C. State, Georgia, and Rutgers."

Moncur, who claims scholarship offers from all of his favorites, talked more about the Hurricanes.

"I like Miami a lot," he said. "They're my team. They got all the talent, they win the most, and I'd like to help them continue that. Plus, me being from Miami would give me a chance to go somewhere that my family can come watch me play every week. If I go somewhere else, it'll be tough for my family to come watch me. And Miami's always good. I've been watching football on TV and I think they're going to win it all again."

Does that make the Canes the early favorite?

"I don't know what that means, but I like Miami a lot," he said. "But I want to take my trips and see what happens from there."
