Standout DT Has UM Offer; Will Visit

This talented defensive tackle prospect has an official visit scheduled to Miami and he's been talking to UM defensive line coach Greg Mark. Find out which other schools are involved and what he likes about the Hurricanes.

At 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds, River Ridge (La.) John Curtis standout defensive tackle Ryan Watson has helped his team to a No. 1 state ranking this season. Through seven games, Watson has registered 11 sacks. Inside the classroom, he took the ACT for the first time this past Saturday.

"That [recruiting] stuff is going good so far," Watson said. "I'm getting a lot of calls and I'm really still open to everyone for now. I'm still looking at Miami, Southern Cal, Colorado, Florida, LSU, and Texas A&M."

The talented defensive tackle has already scheduled four official visits, while he's still debating on the fifth one.

"I have Colorado for December 13, Florida for January 10, LSU for the the next week, and then Miami for the 24th I think it is. My fifth one will be either USC or Texas A&M probably."

Watson talked more about the Hurricanes.

"Man, Miami is like an NFL team," he said. "They're so good it's amazing. I can't remember the last time they lost. Plus, Coach [Greg] Mark told me they're losing a lot of defensive linemen next year so I think there will be a good opportunity to play early. I'm not looking to start my first year or anything, but at least it'll give me a chance. Me and Carnell [Stewart] are going down there together for our trip. We both like Miami a lot."

When Watson was asked about a favorite and the possibility of staying close to home, he was quick to respond.

"I don't have a favorite or anything like that," he said. "I still need to take my trips before knowing about that.

"Not this cat," he said when talking about staying at home. "I like LSU but they're not the highest on my list. I have some other good schools that have offered me and I'm visiting them. All the ones I'm visiting have [offered]."

Watson said he heard that several defensive linemen from Louisiana are scheduled to visit UM that weekend.

"I guess those two guys from East St. John are going down there that week too," he said. "I think they're both pretty good, especially Vegas [Franklin]. He's not real bulky but he is real fast and he has a motor that never stops. He plays hard and makes a lot of plays."
