DT Gets Call From Coker

This standout defensive tackle prospect has been getting lots of recruiting calls recently and he said one of them was from UM head coach Larry Coker. Find out what Coker told this player and find out what he thinks of the Hurricanes by reading on.

At 6-foot-3 and 305 pounds, Duncanville, Texas standout defensive tackle Xavier Lawson-Kennedy is enjoying a strong senior season. While helping his team to a 6-2 start, Lawson-Kennedy has 42 tackles and nine sacks. With a 3.8 GPA, he's still waiting on his test scores.

The talented defender talked about the recruiting process.

"It's going well," he said. "I've got close to 60 offers now but I dont have any idea which ones I'm going to check out on visits yet. I'll probably set those up at the end or after my season. I'm more concerned about finishing strong first."

The talented defensive tackle prospect said several coaches still call on a regular basis, including Miami.

"I actually talked to Coach Coker from [Miami] recently," he said. "He's a real cool guy, just telling me how things are with Miami. They're one of the schools I'm looking at."

Lawson-Kennedy talked more about the Hurricanes.

"I like them, they have a great program," he said. "Warren Sapp's my favorite defensive lineman and I know how well he did playing at Miami. I'd love to be the next Sapp."

The talented defensive tackle was asked about a list of current favorites.

"I really couldn't say yet," he said. "I'm still looking at a bunch of them, just hearing what the coaches have to say."

Interestingly, Lawson-Kennedy has a first cousin named Jarvis Moss that is being heavily recruited and has a visit lined up to Miami.

"We really ain't talkin much about it yet," he said about the possibility of going to the same school. "But a lot of the schools on his list, I like too."

Moss has a visit scheduled to Miami for January 17.

"I have no idea what I'm going to do," he said. "I'll try to finish out my season then think about which ones I'll visit. It'll be a tough decision."

So what are the chances of Lawson-Kennedy leaving the state of Texas?

"I have some friends at UT," he said. "They're a good school and everything but I have no idea."
