DE Has UM Offer; Will Visit

This talented defensive end prospect has scheduled three official visits to schools that have offered him a scholarship and one of them is Miami. Read on to find out what he likes about the Hurricanes and where they rank on his current list of favorites.

At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, Reserve (La.) East Saint John standout defensive end Vegas Franklin is having a solid season through eight games. The talented defender has nine sacks. Franklin, who just took the ACT for the first time this past Saturday, talked about the recruiting process.

"It's straight so far," he said. "I got three of my five trips lined up. I go to Florida State on January 12, Tennessee on January 17, and Miami on January 24. Those three still call a lot and I'm also hearing from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Florida, LSU, Tulane, Ole Miss, West Virginia, and Colorado. I'm still up in the air on my final two visits."

Franklin, who claims scholarship offers from all three schools he's scheduled to visit, talked more about the Hurricanes.

"They're good," he said. "They have a good program and a good winning tradition. They're losing some senior defensive ends so there's a chance for me and they've been on me all year. Me and Kirston [Pittman] are going down there together for a trip. We both like Miami a lot."

So how close are the Hurricanes to being a favorite?

"I ain't got one right now," he said. "I haven't even taken any visits yet so I really couldn't say."

The standout defender was asked about the chances of leaving his home state.

"LSU has done a good job getting the top guys from around here, but I'm me," he said. "I'm considering LSU but they're not my favorite or anything. I'm going to take my trips and figure everything out after that."
