Super LB Has Co-Favorites

One of the state's top overall prospects, this talented linebacker prospect has named co-favorites and talks about why he likes Miami so much. He talks about the conversation he had with a UM coach that stopped by to watch him play. Read on for more...

At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Webster (Fla.) South Sumter standout quarterback/linebacker Earl Everett has been playing very well lately after a sprained ankle forced him to miss a couple games earlier in the year.

"My ankle feels good most of the time," Everett said. "By against Tavares (two weeks ago), a big boy landed on it and it started bothering me a little. But I work with our trainer after practice and he's a real good trainer. He used to work with the Falcons so he should know what's going on."

Everett has been playing quarterback and outside linebacker in recent weeks. In a 49-21 win over Eustis last week, Everett had 189 yards of offense and three touchdowns. Defensively, he had 11 tackles.

"We have one more district game left (Wildwood) then we play Vanguard, then it's the playoffs. I'm hoping we get another chance against Umatilla in the second round."

Everett has also been doing well inside the classroom.

"I studied for my ACT this time and I think I did pretty good," he said. "I took it last weekend. I think I did real good on the Math section. And on my report card, I had four B's and two C's."

Contrary to other Internet reports, Everett did not make the trip to Tallahassee last weekend to watch Florida State play.

"I wanted to go, but I couldn't make it," he said. "Things came up and I wasn't able to go."

Everett said the recruiting process has been going well lately.

"I set up another visit and it's for Miami on January 24th," he said. "We just set that one up. I have Florida for the 17th. Tennessee wanted me to come in late January but I'll have to go some other weekend. And I'm looking forward to my visit to Nebraska. I'm also still looking at FSU a little bit too."

So who is the current front-runner?

"Miami and Florida are out in front of everyone else right now," he said. "They're both tied I'd say. I really like both of them."

Everett said in addition to talking to UM coaches Larry Coker and Don Soldinger in recent weeks, he's also had the chance to talk to Vernon Hargreaves lately.

"He coaches linebackers for them and he seems real nice," he said. "He actually came to watch my game against Tavares. Then he called me on the phone a couple days later and said how he liked what he saw and that they will be losing some linebackers after next year. He talked about me coming in for a visit to learn more about their program and stuff."

Everett said he hopes to take his official visits to Florida and Miami with his parents.

"We'll probably drive to Gainesville," he said. "With Miami, they can only fly me down so we might have to drive there. I want them to come with me."
