Berry: This team is full of leaders

Damien Berry is a sophomore safety for the Hurricanes who is hoping to challenge for a starting spot this season. caught up with him after the team's second spring practice. Read on to see what he's talking about.

Q&A with Safety Damien Berry

Q: How has practice been so far?
A: The first two days went well. We got a lot of work in. We have a new defense so we have to get that stuff down. We are just learning at getting better.

Q: What differences are there in the new defense?
A: It is a lot easier. It is more effective.

Q: Is there more zone and deception in the new defense?
A: You will just have to wait and see. Everyone is going to like it though.

Q: How is the energy of the team so far?
A: It is very up-tempo in practice. Everyone is staying positive. We are just trying to get ready for the season.

Q: Do you see yourself as a starter this year?
A: I can be anything this year. I just have to work hard and believe in myself.

Q: What unit have you been with so far?
A: I have been rotating so far. I play with the 1s, 2s, and 3s. It is constantly changing and rotating.

Q: Have any of the safeties played corner so far?
A: Yes we have. Today I got a few reps at corner. Randy Phillips rotated a little bit also. We are all rotating a little. We are all athletes so we will be fine.

Q: How is the leadership on this team?
A: Everyone on this team is a leader. I believe in leading by example. This is a performance based business and if you perform you are going to be a leader.

Q: How have the Quarterbacks looked so far?
A: They have looked great. Jacory, Marve, and Cannon are all throwing great. They almost always make the right read.

Q: What goals do you have this spring?
A: I just want to get better. I want to help my teammates so we can be the best team possible.
