Spence reflects on week one

True freshman Sean Spence is still adjusting to college life and he just completed his first week of spring practice. CanesTime.com caught up with him to talk about it.

Q: How have the first few practices been?
A: The first few days were hard. I am still adjusting, but I am coming a long way.

Q: You have been with the first team the first few practices. How has that experience been?
A: It is going well. There is a lot of have to pick up on. I have to react to things quicker than I would if I was on second team observing. It is a great opportunity nd I am going to give it my best effort.

Q: What has been the toughest thing to adjust to so far?
A: The speed and atmosphere of the game. You have to play at high speed the whole team. You can not walk or loaf at all. The difference between high school and college is night and day.

Q: How has the energy at practice been?
A: It has been very up-tempo. It was nice to get the pads on and start hitting people. It helps you get a better feel of college football.

Q: How is the new defense looking?
A: It is looking real good. We are using a lot of zone blitzes. We are going to confuse a lot of offenses.

Q: What is your weight right now?
A: I am at 202 right now. I was 193 pounds when I got here.

Q: How good is it to have some of your high school teammates here?
A: It is great. Those guys are like family and now it is time to make a bigger family with all my teammates.

Q: Who has been impressive so far in practice?
A: Randy Phillips has done really well. He is making a really big impact. He had an interception for a touchdown already. He is also really good and making check offs and reading the play.

Q: What goals do you have for yourself this spring?
A: I just want to make sure I learn the defense and I do everything correct. If I get my plays down and work hard the rest will take care of itself."
