Standout DE Will Visit UM

This standout defensive end has a scholarship offer from UM and talks regularly with coach Curtis Johnson. Read on to find out what he likes about Miami and how they stack up against the competition.

At 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, Reserve (La.) East Saint John standout defensive end Kirston Pittman has been playing very well this season.

In helping his team to a 6-2 record so far this season, Pittman has registered 11 sacks in five games as a defensive end. He played free safety in the team's first three games.

Pittman, who is trying to improve his 16 ACT score, talked about the recruiting process.

"It's going real good," he said. "I'm trying to enjoy it because you only go through it once. There are still lots of schools calling and I've got two trips set up. I have Florida State for January 10, 11, and 12. Then I have Miami for January 24, 25, and 26. I'm really looking forward to those because I really like both of them."

Pittman said coaches from those two schools call regularly and he still gets weekly calls from the other schools he's still considering. "There's also Texas, Michigan, Oklahoma, LSU, and Mississippi State. People like that."

The standout defensive end talked more about the Hurricanes.

"It's a great school with a great team," he said. "But the thing I like about Miami is the great coaches. The coaches are really nice and seem to be really good. Coach Johnson is the one that calls me and he's great. He's trying to get me and Vegas [Franklin] in there. I'm very high on Miami, but they're not my favorite I'd say because I really don't have one yet."

With two of the remaining unbeatens in college football on his list of favorites, Pittman was asked about the season.

"All I can say it that it's totally unpredictable," he said. "That's what college football's all about. Anyone can win anytime. Look at Boston College beating Notre Dame. You have to play really well every week to win week in and week out."

So what are the chances of Pittman and Franklin going to college together?

"I don't know about all that because we never really talked about it," he said. "It's pretty much, I'll make my decision and he'll make his. They might be the same one or they might not be."
