Marve making good progress

Robert Marve is in the middle of a tight quarterback battle and most people believe he's the front runner to win the job. CanesTime.com caught up with Marve on Tuesday to talk about a number of things.

Q: How is spring practice going?
A: It is going great. I am feeling a lot better than I thought I would. I was able to keep my weight. Spring has gone well so far.

Q: Coach Shannon said you struggled a little bit in the scrimmage. What were your views on Saturday?
A: It was not really struggling. It was just one of these days. I think I have had a good spring I just had a rough day. It was not too bad or crazy. The defense threw some new stuff at us and we just have to learn from it and adjust.

Q: Do you feel all the rotation at quarterback adds pressure to each snap you take?
A: No it does not. It just makes it more fun to have guys to take about it with. You do not have to be taking snaps to make reads and you can see stuff from behind the play. We watch so much film that it does not really affect us.

Q: Do you feel that one year of experience that you have here on Cannon Smith and Jacory Harris gives you an edge?
A: I do not feel that way at all. I am trying to work as hard as I can and have fun. We are playing a sport that we love and we are just are doing what we do best.

Q: Are you ok with the decision on who is going to be the starting quarterback being delayed till the fall?
A: Coach Shannon is the head man and he makes the rules. I am cool with whatever he does. We are trying to win games. We are not trying to names starters. No one on this team knows their spot on the depth chart yet, whether it is a running back, receiver, or offensive lineman. We do not know where anyone is going to be. We are just working hard and getting ready to win games.

Q: How has this team progressed throughout spring practice?
A: We are much more of a family. It is one thing when you lift weights and it is another thing when you come out here and get those chin straps on and play football. It was the first time I have seen the offensive line and skill guys in the huddle. We look at each other in the eye and say we got this, let's do this together, and let's fight together.

Q: Is there a different feel on this team than there was last year?
A: Definitely. We are always talking to each other. We are worried about how we did in class and their social life. We feel like being here and playing together is a blessing and we are treating it that way.

Q: Do you feel that Saturday is really your time to really shine and to show everyone what you can do?
A: You have to come out to practice that way everyday. It is just a practice in front of fans. You have to play to the best of your capabilities every snap. You want to show people what you have got, but you also have to understand the situation.

Q: How do you focus on running each play Saturday and not worry about I am going to win this job right now?
A: I just do not think about that. I worry about each play and take it one snap at a time.

Q: How important would it be to have a great performance on Saturday?
A: As a team, we are not worried about playing great on Saturday. We are just going to take it play by play and completion for completion. Whether it is throwing a deep ball or a dump off we just have to do whatever is best for the team and not press.

Q: How much fun will it be to play in front of a big crowd on Saturday?
A: It is going to be a lot of fun. We want to show how the "U" is back. I think it is going to be great for the fans to see what we have been doing.
