Smith recaps first spring

Cannon Smith played in his first spring game ever as a member of the Miami Hurricanes. The 5'11" quarterback was 1 for 5 with an interception while completing the longest pass of the day to Shawnbrey McNeal for 66 yards. talked to Smith about what his first spring game was like.

How do you think you did today?

"I think I did alright. It wasn't my best performance of the spring but I did some good things with the opportunities that I had. I think overall as a team it was a good finish to a good spring. Hopefully we did some good stuff out there to look forward to in the fall."

Was it good to see the pass to Shawnbrey McNeal develop into such a big play?

"Oh yeah. It's the way we run some of our plays where you've got to go through your whole progression first. I was patient with it. I saw him slip out and I dumped it off to him. He's a burner you know so he made a nice run after it."

You two have played a lot together this season. What play making ability has he shown you?

"Shawnbrey can play. He can cut. He can block. He can run. He's a great back . I think he's going to help us out a lot this year."

What's the biggest thing you took out of your first spring practice?

"Really the main thing is just being comfortable. I'm here getting comfortable with the offense and all the guys out here. Now it's just another day of work for me. It's not like I'm going into something so new anymore."

How has your comfort level increased since you arrived at Miami?

"It's a mile ahead as far as comfort goes and getting used to the system and playing well."
