At 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds, Miami (Fla.) Braddock standout defensive end Tranell Morant took his first official visit of the year this past weekend.
"I went to Auburn and had a great time," Morant said. "It went really good. I saw Big Max [Jean-Gilles] playing for Georgia. I also saw the kid from Miami Springs last year [Devin Aromashodu]. He's doing real good up there. I got a chance to meet all the coaches and everything was real nice."
So does the visit to Auburn put the Tigers at the top of his list?
"They're at the top for now," he said. "But it's sort of hard for me to compare it to the other ones yet since I haven't been those places for official visits yet."
Morant said he knows what he'll be looking for when it comes time to compare.
"I want to know who is BSing me," he said. "I want to find out what the best situation for me is. Whether it's just fitting in, early playing time, or whatever, I need to know what the best situation is for me. That's what my visits will be for."
Speaking of visits, Morant had a slight change.
"I took out my visit to Missouri because that's just too far away," he said. "It's halfway across the country. Instead, I'm going to Florida. Even though I've been there before, I haven't had a chance to meet and hang out with the players to see what it's really like there."
Morant's next trip is to Georgia on Nov. 29, followed by Rutgers on Dec 6. He will visit UM on Jan. 24.
Speaking of the Hurricanes, Morant said they're still every bit in the picture.
"Coach Shannon called the other day but I was on the phone with another coach at the time," he said. "So I was never able to talk to him that day. I like UM a lot. I'm going to enjoy all my visits and then make a decision after I take all of them."
Morant, who will play in the Dade/Broward all-star game, has scholarship offers from all of his favorites.
