Baby J accepting his leadership role

Javarris James is one of the most experienced players on the team this year and that's one of the reasons why he's looked upon as one of the leaders. CanesTime.com caught up with him to discuss the progress of the team, his leadership role, and much more. Read on to see what he's saying!

Q: How is your health and do you feel a difference in running completely healthy?

A: I am 100 percent. I am not going to make any excuse for last year or dwell on the pass. I am healthy now and that is all that matter.

Q: With such inexperience at quarterback do you feel establishing the running game is going to be the key for this team?

A: I feel it is going to be very important. We can be a great running team and if we can do that it is going to make life easier for our passing game and defense.

Q: Coach Shannon has talked about using the backs in the passing game this year. What are your thoughts on that?

A: I think it can be a big weapon for us. We have guys that can make plays and make people miss in space so it can be a good thing for us.

Q: How important is play-action going to be in this offense?

A: It is going to be very important. If we run the ball well it can be a big help for our quarterbacks and receivers. It can really open up the passing game.

Q: Do you feel like you are one of the leaders on this team?

A: Most definitely. When I was young here I looked up to guys and I feel I need to be one of those guys. I am not going to be one of those guys that yells and screams though. I am going to lead by example.

Q: Do you feel that this is the best offensive line you have had?

A: Definitely. I feel the O-Line is the best unit on the team. They have a lot of experience and they have been doing an excellent job. We are all excited about what they can do for this team.

Q: How are the QBs doing so far?

A: They are doing a great job. They are taking control in the huddle and being the leader of the offense. They are not showing their age.

Q: Do you feel this team is a lot closer than the previous years?

A: Yes. We are much closer. We hang out more together. We do a lot of stuff together and Coach Shannon has helped make us a closer team.
