Berry excited to start the season

Damien Berry is hoping to provide quality depth behind Javarris James and Graig Cooper this season. CanesTime.com caught up with Berry to talk about the team and the progress they're making through fall camp.

How did you do in the scrimmage?

"I got a lot of carries at the end of the scrimmage and had a lot of chip shots like five or six yards here and five or six yards there."

Coach Shannon mentioned that he has a lot of confidence in you, Lee, and Shawnbrey. How does that make you feel?

"It makes me feel good knowing that I have a great offensive line and a coach that is going to stand behind me."

You moved from safety to running back after the spring. How has the transition been going?

"It's going fairly well. I've go the support of my family within the team. They've been telling me ‘Do your thing man. Stay confident. You can do it'."

Last year, you were on defense and formed a bond with them and now have to form a new bond with the offense. How is that going?

"I wouldn't call it a whole new one because I've always been on the team. They always knew that I played running back in high school and we would joke around about it."

The quarterbacks talk about how they spend a lot of time together. Do you hang out with the other running backs?

"Yeah, we hang out a lot. Me and JJ and Coop, Lee, Shawnbrey, all of us. Me and Shawnbrey are actually roommates. That's my best friend. We do a lot of things together."

With the season just two weeks away, how excited are you to get out there and start playing?

"Boy I can't even tell you how excited I am. I just can't wait for it to happen."
