QB decision update

Jacory Harris, Robert Marve, and Cannon Smith have all been competing for the starting quarterback job at Miami for the past several months and with less than a week to go before the opener, Coach Shannon talked about the situation.

Robert Marve, Jacory Harris, and Cannon Smith all competed in spring practice. All three were here all summer competing. And all three have been getting reps this fall with various groups. With just six days left before the season opener against Charleston Southern, head coach Randy Shannon said he's still not sure when the announcement will be made.

"I don't know when I'm going to announce it," Shannon said. "I may announce it 10 tonight, tomorrow, Sunday, I don't know."

While many people believe it's a two-man race between Marve and Harris, Shannon wanted people to know that it's still a three-man race.

"Cannon has been doing a good job," he said. "All of them are still (splitting reps). All of them."

Based on what the media has been able to observe in the last couple scrimmages, Marve seems to be getting the most work with the first unit. While that may or may not be true for the rest of the practices, Shannon said getting all three quarterbacks prepared is the top priority.

"You have to get three quarterbacks ready," he said. "The NFL gets three quarterbacks ready, so we have to get three quarterbacks ready. You have to get three quarterbacks reps."

Shannon said on Friday that the opening day depth chart will be released on Sunday so could that be the day we all find out the starting quarterback? Stay tuned to CanesTime.com for that answer and more.
