Depth chart coming Sunday

The Hurricanes practiced starting at 5:30 am on Friday and here are some news and notes from it.

-The Canes began preparing for Charleston Southern today. The scrimmages we saw every day in fall camp were not part of practice. Miami went over plays repeatedly today and worked against the scout team that was simulating Charleston Southern.

-Coach Shannon will be releasing the depth chart on Sunday.

-Tommy Streeter is out for the year with an undisclosed injury.

-The Canes expect to have several young DBs play major minutes. Brandon Harris is the team's nickel back right now and safeties Vaughn Telemaque and JoJo Nicolas are expected to get meaningful playing time.

-The offense was talking about their improvement throughout spring practice and fall camp. They feel they have really progressed as a unit over that time.

Quotes from Head Coach Randy Shannon

"It was a fun practice. They were enthused. They flew around. We got a lot of things done on Charleston Southern. We're going in the right direction."

On Charleston Southern

"They run a spread offense, are going to do a lot of zone blitzing, things like that. You can't take them lightly, have to make sure you're doing things solid on defense and picking up the blitzes on offense."

On spreading out fall practices

"It's a lot different. Guys know what we expect out of them. You don't have to drill them all the time on making sure they get things done. Now it's more they understand what we need, the tempo. Now it's easy for practice."

On Holding out Cooper and James

"The same thing. You have to get the running backs running tough. They understand that now, did it this spring and this fall. We pick and choose what we're going to do and get ready for the season."

On Chris Barney

"He's walking on crutches. You know how bones are, when they heal they heal. He was doing really well and then the injury happened. He had his weight down. Now it's time for other guys to step up."
